A Cleaner Approach
Throughout the month of April, AKS will begin transitioning all fleet aircraft to newly standardized oil/fuel and window supply bins. This update is part of an ongoing effort to improve cleanliness and organization across the fleet.
Window Supply Bins
Window supply bins will now be limited to only two essential items required for proper care of the aircraft windscreen: grey microfiber cloths and PRIST windscreen cleaner. Remember to wipe the windscreen with up and down strokes, NOT circles!
Oil/Fuel Supply Bins
Oil/fuel supply bins will be streamlined to include only the items necessary for routine preflighting: fuel samplers, fuel quantity gauges, TORK brand paper towel boxes, and UNUSED disposable oil funnels.
As part of this transition, reusable oil funnels are being phased out across the fleet. Improperly cleaned funnels have contributed to oil residue spreading within the bins, negatively impacting other equipment. Disposable funnels (pictured below) eliminate this issue and help ensure that all oil/fuel supply bins remain clean and serviceable. All used paper funnels should be discarded in the trash receptacle located next to the portable restroom at the end of row Juliett (KSBP). Students and renters found to be placing used disposable oil funnels back into the oil/fuel supply bins will be held responsible for damages to bins and related equipment.
If fuel samplers or fuel quantity gauges become excessively coated with fuel during preflight inspections, they should be wiped down using TORK brand paper towels (pictured below). Used paper towels should be disposed of in the same receptacle next to the portable restroom at the end of row Juliett (KSBP).
Maintaining a clean and well-stocked aircraft is a shared responsibility.
If supplies are missing, student pilots should contact their instructor, while renters should contact AKS Administration for assistance. Please be mindful that each aircraft will be used by other pilots throughout the day—take a moment after your flight to reset the cabin. This includes securing seatbelts and gust locks, removing and discarding any trash, and ensuring all oil/fuel and window supply bins are left in an orderly condition.
A clean aircraft reflects a professional operation and a strong community. Thank you for your attention to detail and continued commitment to each other!
